Dropper loop....hmmmmm.

This time of year if you were fishing near the kelp I'd say it was a sevengill, open water it could be a thresher.

How much line did it take?

Threshers tend to hit erratically and then once they have the bait take off fast instantly running off line. Their teeth are small and don't usually cut the line very quickly, the line usually comes back scrapped up where it's cut


Seven gills grab the bait in a single heavy lunge, feel like you hooked a car when you set the hook, and usually cut off quickly like the line was cut with a knife do to the hook shape of thier teeth.



I've hooked a ton of seven gills this time of year fishing macks on a dropper loop. Especially when fishing tight to the kelp. If had to guess that'd be my call.
