for the dogs a paintball gun does the trick.as far as getting hung up in the kelp it depends if Im deep into it, if so i usually point the rod tip up, drop it in free spool and allow the fish some slack and they usually try to run and that results in the line being freed enough that you can drop the tip below the surface and crank him in. if its not too far in I reach for the sky and cranking it in works good for me.
