Can be very beneficial if specifically drifting for halibut in either strong current, or strong winds. Really helps with slowing down the drift in these conditions, and if using anchor trolley in conjunction it will direction your kayak the way you want to drift. I've pulled mine out on many occasions. And I believe mine is 5 feet.
