Got out in the afternoon for a few hours. Making bait was real tough; tried for Macs for 2 hours then headed out into the canyon where a I pulled two sardines from the breezers. Tied on a size 2 hook and went back to the zone to slow-pedal one fly-lined sardine. Probably 6 pm by this time.
At one point a school of maybe 20 yellowtail blew up simultaneously all around myself and another kayaker (Anthony?). Disappointing but neither of us got picked up.
20 minutes later I got a hit only to turn around and see a bird with my dean! Pulled it free, inspected it and since it looked livelier than the dead one in my tank I put it back out.
5 minutes later I got hit again and turned around in time to see a nice yellow taking my bait! Set the hook and the fight was on!
It's been a while since I pulled on a good yellow from a kayak; very enjoyable! 15 minutes in, as a last hurrah she wrapped herself good in the kelp. Thanks to 65# braid + 30 # floro (but mostly the braid!) I was able to pull out of that mess. After that she coasted in completely spent. Gaffed and aboard!
A crappy pic but some of you folks like photographic proof

. Ignore the shit-eating grin please.
