I use real light spinning rod for using sabiki rigs, 6.6ft 6-14lb 1/8 to 3/8oz rod with 2000 spinning reel. Most of the time I use light weight like picture below right above the snap end. As for Sabiki, I open a new pack everytime and keep the prior one as backup. Also Owner Mackerel Skin Size 14 works best for me.

I use to cut off half too, then realized that I get better results using the whole thing. Check out the clip below from one of the members from this forum.
