Absolutely YES. You can go heavier if you want..
If you felt the rod you'd see why. Your on a yak, and if your not flinging a conventional jig stick set up for surface iron you will need some whip..
A lot of spinning set up once you go into 40-50# it is some huge thick spinning set up for surf fishing!?!..
I have Caught & Landed 150# Threshers with this rod.
