Grunion are small Smelt like fish that breed in the shore sand when the tide and moon are right. Predatory fish, I.e. Halibut come into the surf zone to eat the Grunion.
You are allowed to catch Grunion by hand on the nights that they come ashore. It's a So Cal tradition. |
