On this point, I've heard of squeezing in silicone glue before heat shrinking. As the connector shrinks, the silicone squeezes out and makes a nice water-tight seal.

I'll check all my other connections excluding the back of the FF for this.

Good argument in favor of an extended warranty.

When my FF went on the blink (not sure why, hence this thread), Lowrance replaced it promptly. As soon as they received my unit for evaluation, they called to ask if I would like to upgrade to a bigger unit for a modest amount of extra money that probably covers their cost of replacement. I might accept that option in the future if my FF croaks again within the warranty period.
