this is actually pretty much what i do... then i look at a few diff websites.

BIG SWELL = meh. you just ride some big rollers
RAINY = you're going to get wet anyways. just dont bring valuable electronics
HIGH WINDS = stay home. wind is the worst.

surfline.com
windfinder.com

i cross check those 3 for swell and wind pattern + tides
