Hmmmmm, I may have heard a story like that before.
 That place can be brutal but can also be very rewarding. Glad you are ok, hope you did not give up too much gear to the sea. There you have it folks...1st hand evidence that the surf is too dangerous to fish in Malibu. Your safest bet would be San Diego bay.
