I guess in short, if you start to fish more you'll realize the convenience isn't necessary. For me personally, I automatically guide the line on my reel with my fingers even when I use a levelwind. And I've damaged the levelwind and had to replace the worm gear. One less part to worry about maintaining if I had bought a Torium. But you're supposed to be able to cast further with a non-levelwind.
