I was looking at the standard horizon 851 model. Has decent reviews and amazon has it for about 120 bucks or so.

I'd spend the extra $$$ for a floating model.

Floating is good, but don't need it. Your radio should be tethered to your PFD which should be on your body.

I just bought an HX-300 floating radio and it was inoperable right out of the box. The charging port was loose and wouldn't charge. Makes me wonder about quality control at the Chinese factory. Any American made models around?
