I wouldn't think that a skeg would help going out through the surf. I thought the skeg was mostly for tracking and keeping straight. I have no problem staying straight against waves while heading out. The bigger problem is the weight of the boat and waves coming over the bow and the deck not draining fast enough. I would think that the hull design and weight reduction would have a much greater improvement on surf launches. As many pros as there are on the PAs there are definitely a couple cons. And I think one of those cons will always be surf launches with that boat.
