I second the fish alerts app. It will show you when you are outside the boundary and into the legal fishing areas all along the CA coast. You can also click on the restricted areas and it will tell you what is and is not allowed in that area. It works great

This is what the Fish Alerts App looks like. When you are on the water it will have a blue dot showing where you are. You can zoom in and out. It also has all the sizes and limits for the different species in CA.
