Also glad to be in a place that I wouldn't consider 50 dollar rod a "Waste"

To each their own, I guess.

I've done it both ways, and enjoy the peace of mind of not having a kayak full of tiny hooks to manage.

I just use the backside of a butter knife, works for me!
