In 2wd and way early, air down to 10 lbs tire pressure if you are 2wd and see it is soft, or realize that sand driving is really about momentum....which doesnt work when the tourists and lifeguards are around

The sand has been really soft lately. I have needed to use 4WD on my last couple trips.

Bummer of a morning. I decided to not even try the sand with my mini-van. I park it and use the yak-cart and hoof it along the sidewalk.

One thing you may want to consider if you are consistently driving onto the beach is to buy a GOOD tow strap(meaning sewed ends, not metal hooks as they can become dangerous projectiles) available many places on line or at Off Road warehouse. Then when you are stuck you can have it out and ready and I wont have to get mine out, sandy and wet. I have never turned down towing someone out of a situation unless they have no tow points, but I really appreciate someone who is prepared!

thanks guys for all the pointers. regards to the tow strap; i have actually purchased and put it on my check list of items to bring for my kayak.
but if the sand is really soft, i'll be using my pull chart. lessoned learned on this one. |
