I'm going to get some dirty looks from the born and raised west coast guys, but don't comptly over look the spinning option. If your a beginner, casting a spinning reel is 10x eaiser and with your target species a spinning combo is perfectly suitable. I've got a couple Okuma Cedros with 40 and 50lb braid work in any kayak situation a conventional reel would be used.

If you hook a large fish that takes a lot of line the drag has a very good chance of melting and causing the reel to explode. I work and Dana wharf and I talked to every deckhand that used to work long range down there and they all say that avets have this issue. Plus it happened to my mxl.

Take care of a quality spinning reel, and it'll last as long as any conventional reel. Just my opinion. (And the entire east coast and Midwest) |

Spottie slayer,
Where have you been all this time? I could have used your insight. Guys around the world use coffee grinders for big fish, it's just a matter of preference. All averts blow up and the mc cast is a scam. I hope I can still return mine. ![]() A lot of fishing gear is like golf clubs. Some guys just swear by a certain brand and others try to buy game with the newest, shiniest model. ![]() Either you catch fish or not. Pick up gear that feels good in your hand. My.02 |
