I will never Kayak without one. Many don't wear them because of the cool factor, they think if they are seen wearing a PFD they will look uncool. How will you look being pulled from the water dead? What happens if you get flipped some how and become knocked out and are not wearing your PFD? You die. There are a ton of PFDs out there that are less bulky and are less than $100. No one can make anyone wear on, but I can't see any reason why someone doesn't. Not only should you wear one, but make sure it's properly secure and adjusted.

I spend quite a bit on tackle and If something does happen it happens it looks like it was my time. I could get hit by a drunk driver on the way to the launch ramp. Ive come very close to death more than once so by now I figure if its my time its my time.

Have you tried any of the self inflate vests? I know they are not the best to be wearing on a Kayak but they are more comfortable.

It's a personal choice so one can choose what they wish to wear, or not to wear. And it's a choice that everyone should make for themselves.
When I was into Motorcycle racing for 14 years back in the day, a quote comes to mind... A sponsor once told me... "If you have a Ten Dollar Head... then wear a Ten Dollar Helmet"

taking a Blacks beach 4 wave canyon set on the head (which has happened a multitude of times) worries me 10 billion times more than flipping a pro angler 200 yards from the nearest beach
its just not necessary to sit in here and command everyone to do something that may be necessary for you, but not for everyone else..... i take my kid out to the lakes and bay and hes always got his pfd on no matter what. that said, i certainly hope after spending 20 plus years on/in the water i could wade for the 30 seconds it takes to flip a kayak back over. good on you for practicing safety, you might even outlive me ![]()

![]() I hope what I said wasn't coming across as if I was commanding anyone, that wasn't my intent. So I apologize if that's what was felt or read.
