Been doing this for over a year now, no problems. If your car is still under warranty, call the warranty center and have them put it in an email that it is OK. This is what I did when I bought my Prius in 2012. The manual states the Prius is not recommended for towing - whatever

Have you thought about roof racks? You always have parking issues with a trailer. I'v hauled two kayaks on top of my toyota and Kia many times.
