I overlooked your post at first Reel Anxious. Yeah these are cheaper alternatives and work well in their own way. I've seen these for cheap at Asian markets maybe less than a buck each.
Just saw them and they are quite small. Will try something.

I think the water bottle idea has possibilities.

What about a can of cat food punched full of holes with an old fashioned punch-type can opener? clip your line to the finger-puller on the lid.
