Fished Newport yesterday. Got out around 6:30 am to a ripping incoming tide. Fished around the bait barge and had a ball catching calicos. Had probably 10-15 in a 1 1/2 hr. period. They were attacking the Gulp mullet in red. Saw one guy catching lots of perch using what looked like squid strips.

Went out of the harbor south to Corona to fish the kelp for some more bass. Very little kelp around compared to last year when I was down there. No love on a variety of swimbaits.

As I headed back in just off Corona beach there was a swimmer about a 1/2 mile out. Couldn't help but think of the swimmer who was attacked by the shark right there. Ballsy. You won't find me swimming in that water.

Headed back to the bait barge but the tide was slack and the fishing really slowed. All in all a fun day on the water.

Fished Newport yesterday too. Had two friends new to fishing with me so we rented a skiff. Made it out the barge and caught micro-barracudas, lots of bass and the odd mackerel. Bites died off around high tide and picked up after that. Hope to make it out on the kayak soon.
