Are you able to space the distance between the racks so that it cradles the narrower part of the hull?

If I'm getting what you are saying, I don't think so. The cradles are angle upward and you cant change the angle on them. I'm going to look at them tonight to see if I can modify.

Ahh That makes more sense! Great Idea but it does not work on my car. On my 4runner the bars are I have are mounted to the door sills so they can only go as far apart as the doors go which is not far enough apart for the narrower parts of the kayak.
