Paddling jacket is most important on surf launch. If you take one over the bow, it prevents the ingress of salty brine into your waders. I usually put mine on, launch, then take it off because it's too hot to paddle in most of the time. Beats sitting in a captive puddle.

I don't know that you need the sweats under the waders this time of year. But, a good paddle jacket is the key to staying dry if you end up in the drink. It acts like a wader belt, which you should wear if you don't use a paddle jacket. Look for one with at least wrist gaskets and adjustable neck and waist gaskets. I had a NRS paddle jacket years ago. It was so warm that I could use it in the winter with only a light layer under it and be fine. But, it did well when the weather was only cool too. The point is, spend the money on good breathable waders and a good breathable dry top. Just make sure to leave room for layers like sweats and sweatshirts. I highly suggest going somewhere OEX and trying them on.

Ed speaks truth. The basic NRS paddle jacket is dope and you can't beat the price. At least, I remember it being affordable when I was a broker flavor of fool. I have gotten absolutely firehosed wearing mine during heavy surf launches, but i stayed nice and dry inside my waders. It also sheds blood and mackerel slime quite nicely.
