I also explored silver lake a few times after reading Sabaâ€™s stories and would like to do some winter trout fishing. Have been planning to look into the SD county lakes and would appreciate any guidance for the community.

Closed to watercraft and camping. Open for shore fishing. My point is that you don't need a secluded spot to find good winter trout fishing w/ camping.

OH MAN don't I wish. I've watched most of Robert Field's videos on that place. I've the means, but have been trying to be diplomatic with the wife about expensive destination trips. Good news is there's a yoga/surf retreat next door and they're nominally open to splitting a package between the two.

Cuyamaca is supposed to get stocked with large trout second week of this month and has tent, RV/w hook ups or not (no sewer) and has cabins and condo for rent too. Check out their web site cause there is also Duck hunting on Wednesdays and Sundays.

There a lots of hiking trails in the area and if you are more hard core, the Pacific Crest Trail goes by near the area.

I grew up going to Cuyamaca. Pinzanita Campground is nearby. Might be too "RV" for your tastes but is an option.
