I have a Hummingbird but this problem is likely universal to all FF. I have learned a couple things that may help with this problem.

DO NOT leave your FF cable connected to the battery while in storage. Even though the cable may not be connected to anything, it will be conducting current. The connector pins will corrode very quickly when exposed to the damp, salty air inside your kayak, especially when hot.

If your cable connectors are corroded, a quick wash with vinegar will usually clean them up. I use a q-tip but you can also dip the cable ends in the vinegar, (unplugged, of course).

Hopefully this helps.

Corrosion on electrical connections.

I know this is an older post but for cleaning almost any electical connection use a little BEER. Try it on your car battery connections it works much better than baking soda.
