Very instructive videos. The Shimano guys made this sound fairly complicated with lots of choices of sizes and colors of the jigs plus a bunch of different hooks, rings, leaders, etc. What works here?
For a first timer, what size jigs and hooks would you recommend? Do you try to "match the hatch" as we often do with other lures or are there some standard setups that just work most of the time? Would you use the same jigs if targeting fish in the kelp versus dropping down on the marks in deeper water. This system sound really cool. I am looking forward to giving it a try. Bob |

Bob, I bought the 6oz. and one in every color for that price. They don't have the hooks, but you can get those at BP or any local tackle store. Wade was correct...I paid big bucks for the Shimano butterfly's from my favorite Newport tackle store.....not anymore! I will let you know how they look compared to my Shimano's when they arrive. But for the price, you can't go wrong!

Shimano has some savvy marketing. If you want to fish thier $20 jigs correctly you need to buy thier $400 reel. I remember talking to a shimano rep at the Long Beach FH show when the "system" was brand new. The guy was going on about how you can fish the butter fly jigs over structure 500 feet deep. I told him in CA it's against the law to fish deeper than 60 fathoms. He looked at me like I was an idiot. Anyway, the butterfly style looks like a fun way to fish; lighter and easier than our traditional style yo-yo. Except I already have a yo-yo set up and plenty of heavy iron that work with out investing way too much cast. Mike
