Forget the "gentle giant" BS, it's never a good idea to get right in the middle of a predator's kill zone. I was surfing years ago just north of the scripps pier and had a pod of bottle nose dolphins crash a school of bait all around me. Not cute or smilely, just big strong fast predators focussing on killing and eating. Dolphins don't attack people but when you're between them and their food they don't give you much space as they go by. Majesty of nature yadda yadda, I got the hell out of there. Mike
